Why Regular Skin Checks Matter

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with two in three Australians diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70. Despite this, many people still don't have regular skin checks.

A skin check with a trained practitioner takes around 20–30 minutes and involves a thorough examination of your skin from head to toe. Your doctor will look for any spots or lesions that appear unusual in size, shape, colour, or texture.

Early detection is the single most important factor in successful skin cancer treatment. When caught early, the vast majority of skin cancers are highly treatable. Waiting until a spot looks obviously concerning can mean a more complex treatment and a longer recovery.

We recommend annual skin checks for most adults, and more frequent checks for those with a personal or family history of skin cancer, fair skin, or significant sun exposure over their lifetime.

If you haven't had a skin check recently, now is a great time to book one. Our clinic offers thorough skin cancer checks in a relaxed, professional environment on the Mornington Peninsula.
